Before you choose

Nothing. No cookie, no request to Google, no advertising server contacted.

That is stricter than the “consent mode” Google offers, which loads the tag immediately in a restricted state: in that mode your IP address reaches Google before you have answered. We load the tag only after you agree.

Strictly necessary

To remember your decision, the site writes a single entry in your browser's local storage (ero-consent). It is not a cookie, it is never sent to a server, and it expires after thirteen months.

Without it we could not honour your refusal, and the window would come back on every page.

Audience measurement, if you agree

Google Analytics 4 sets _ga and _ga_<id>, kept for thirteen months. They tell us how many people visit the site and which pages they read.

Google keeps these cookies for two years by default; we brought them down to thirteen months, the duration recommended by the Belgian Data Protection Authority.

Advertising and conversion measurement, if you agree

Google Ads sets cookies in the _gcl family, kept for up to ninety days. They tell us which advert brought you here, and therefore let us stop paying for the ones that bring nobody.

Google also sets an IDE cookie and a test_cookie from its own doubleclick.net domain. Those are not ours: Google writes them, on a domain that is not ours.

Refusing does not make adverts disappear: you will see the same ones elsewhere, they will simply be measured less well on our side.

Changing your mind

The “Manage my cookies” link at the foot of every page reopens the window at any time. A refusal immediately stops everything going to Google and deletes the cookies set on our own domain, _gcl_au included.

The IDE cookie belongs to the doubleclick.net domain. No site is allowed to delete a cookie set by another domain: our code cannot touch it, and we would rather tell you that than let you believe otherwise. After your refusal it is no longer fed or read, since nothing leaves here any more, but it stays in your browser until you remove it.

To remove it: clear cookies from your browser settings, or go through myadcenter.google.com. If you clear everything, the window will reappear on your next visit, since the site will have forgotten your decision.

Fonts and images

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. That load sets no cookie, but your IP address is visible to Google for the duration of the request. It is the only external call the site makes before you choose.

Photographs and videos are hosted with the site: they contact no third party.
